JIM PRUY (MULTIMEDIA ARTIST)

Being the kid in school who was always more interested in his textbook-cover 'doodles', than the actual textbook itself, Jim,

early on, established an 'opposite way' of doing things.

His history as a multimedia artist covers the gamut of things possible.  He's been a video producer; a performance artist; a record-cover designer and a website producer.  He's dabbled in portrait photography; documentary filmmaking; sound recordings and 'set design'.

They're all interrelated to Jim, of course, these mediums of expression.  All informing the other and inspiring something original, something that hasn't been thought of before.  This is what inspires the artist, this opportunity to create or give birth to the new.

In the fall of '88, Jim began attending Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where he majored in S.I.M. (Studio for Interrelated Media).  It was in S.I.M. where Jim's abilities to write, direct and edit videos blossomed…and it wasn't long before his fellow classmates were starring in one of his videos or were requesting to videotape him...for one of their projects.

From '94-95, he designed 2 CD covers for the jazz hip-hop band Jasper and the Prodigal Suns ("Everything Is Everything"/"People Get Ready"), which were distributed by the Geffen Records label.  In '96, he designed the cover art for the Fully Celebrated Orchestra's "Live at the Latch String Inn" and in '98 when the post-punk band Soothing Sounds For Baby were assembling their "Thunk!" CD, Jim provided the back-cover photo shot.

In '99 (after graduating from MassArt/BFA), Jim began developing the "Soothing Sounds For Baby's Tribute Website", which demonstrated his ability to now write HTML and produce eye-catching web-graphics.  Presently, Jim serves as the site's administrator, renewing Soothing Sounds' content from time to time.

In '13, Jim has been more active than ever.  He uploaded over a hundred of his videos onto YouTube; collaborated with content creators at NewTV ("The Folklorist"); developed a new cable access show (the "Newton Enthusiast") and established a new Facebook page (Soothing Sounds For Baby), which showcases the many videos he produced as a high school student, while attending Newton North.

"THE LOST CITY OF

 NORUMBEGA" (THE FOLKLORIST)

"The notion that Vikings had established a Viking settlement along the Charles River in Newton, MA in 1000 A.D., had become an obsession of mine for a while.  I spent weeks researching the subject and also considered making a video about it, but in the end, it seemed to make a perfect episode of THE FOLKLORIST.  So I offered-up the general concept/story to the creators of the show and hopefully, it will help to land them another Emmy Award.  Good luck guys!" - Jim Pruy

"THE HOOSAC TUNNEL"

 (THE FOLKLORIST)

"THE FOLKLORIST is a two-time Emmy Award winning show that's produced at my local community access cable station here in Newton, MA.  The HD quality of their show, the way it's shot and the host, John Horrigan, a superior storyteller, it's hard to believe that this show is produced at a local access station.  So eager to be involved, after much prodding, they eventually cast me in the foreman roll for the episode called THE HOOSAC TUNNEL." - Jim Pruy

"The Hoosac Tunnel" (The Folklorist)

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTOR

"SKYWALKING THROUGH

 NEVERLAND" (PODCAST)

"My friend Richard Woloski and his wife Sarah and I hooked-up recently to do a podcast for their show's Halloween episode.  Rich and I were big Star Wars fans, back in the day, when we used to go 'trick-or-treating'…it was always as a Star Wars character.  So we had a good time reminiscing about our youth." - Jim Pruy

"Skywalking Through Neverland"
